EYE LOOK FOR A PHOTOSHOOT

Saturday was fun. Family photo shoot, baby sitting and loads of cooking to say the least.  I must admit Friday night was demanding and I was under a lot of stress getting gear ready and organized for the photo shoot which involved, thinking of colors, outfits and rehearsing smiles with the kids. Let’s just say our offspring is one of a kindJ.
I chose to wear a blue eye look. It was not planned at all, but when I started playing with makeup shades of blue made it to the alter. It was so much fun creating my look because I got to use lashes, a lot of eye shadow and all the good stuff.
I prepared a little tutorial for you all. So let’s get started.

  •           MAC paint pot in Posh Paradise. Now this is a blue paint pot and is not sold in MAC stores anymore so just grab any blue crayon or eye pencil. I used this paint pot under my eye shadows to make them appear more vivid and show up brighter.
Tip: Always use an eye primer before applying eye shadows. It will help the shadows adhere better to your lids, and your look will be more vibrant. You do not need one primer in every color, just one clear one or a nude one will work. MAC Painterly Paint Pot is my favourite and also Urban Decay primer potion. If your lids are not oily a concealer will work too.

Urban Decay 15 anniversary pallet. I used the following 3 colors. A navy blue (Evidence), peacock turquoise blue ( Deep End)  and then a black matte shadow ( Black Out). Again you can use  colors from any brand. I know Wet n Wild makes a very inexpensive high quality pallet called Had me at Hello. You do not have to use the colors I chose , go ahead and select any 3 colors but one of the colors have to be the darkest. I love Urban Decay shadows they are amazing quality, however; if you are tight on budget Wet n Wild makes good quality proffessional eye shadows.

  •   I paired this look with a coral blush. My choice was MAC Hipness. It is a soft pink blush with a slight hint of coral.
  •  For lips I chose to go bright but neutral at the same time. I wore MAC Lovelorn. Guys this lipstick is a lustre finish. If you are like me and just love to slap on lipstick and out the door without worrying about lip gloss well get the lustre finishes from MAC. I love Lovelorn because it is baby pink just bright enough for a subtle pop. Sometimes you need color on your face but with a heavy eye look, a drastic pop just can look a little too much for me personally.
  • I used other products too but for the sake of this  tutorial I will not be mentioning the nitty gritties like concealer, primer, foundation but if you want me to talk about it let me know and I will.
Step 1:
Start with a clean face. Moisturize completely. For the  photo shoot I added a primer all over my face to get rid of the excessive shine. Apply concealer, foundation and powder. Apply concealer on your eye lids too just a dab to even the coloration of your eye lids.
Step 2:
Apply MAC paint pot in Posh Paradise all over the lid but do not go over your crease. Blend the edges. I applied and blended the paint pot with my ring finger. Also apply the paint pot under the eye.
Tip: Always use your ring finger to apply makeup on the eye area because the pressure of this finger is the least and it will prevent premature wrinkling of the eye region. Do not pull and tug on your skin around the eyes.
Step 3:
Now take a flat shader brush such as the MAC 239 and using one side apply eyeshadow Deep End on the inner half of your eye lid do not go over your crease. When you open your eye, the shadow should be peaking above your eye but below your brow bone just on the crease or a little tiny bit above the crease depending on your eye shape. For me I had to go a little above the crease.

Step 4:
Now take the MAC 239 brush and use the next side of the brush and pick up Evidence and place it on the outer half of the eye lid. Extend this shadow a little outside your eye to make your eyes look bigger. Do not worry about blending at this point. All we are doing is placing the colors on the lid.
Step 5:
Take MAC 239 brush and pick up the Deep End shadow again and dab on the lid on the line where the two shadows meet so that the transition is seamless.
Step 6:
Now pick up MAC Soft Brown eye shadow which is a matte brown ( you can take any matte powder which is brown) with fluffy blending brush like MAC 224 and place this brown right where you stopped the shadows on or a little above your crease and then in a window wiper motion go back and forth softly.
Tip: The brown effortlessly blends all the colors to create a beautiful ombre effect.

Step 7:
Now taking the MAC 239 just touch up both the colors on the lid because while blending some of the colors get removed.
Step 8:
Now apply a highlight and blend with the brown. For this look I used a matte creamish highlight as everything else was shimmery.
Tip:  I first  fill in my eyebrows then apply the highlight and then I take the fluffy blending brush and just go over below the highlight lightly in a window wiper motion once and it blends the highlight with all the other colors. Also when creating a shimmery look, its always nice to use a matte highlight. It creates a nice texture and is not a shiny over kill.
Step 9:
Now take a pencil brush such as MAC 219 and place the eye shadow Deep End from the Urban Decay pallet and place it from the outer end towards the inner end of the under eye. Keep it close to the lower lash line.
Step 10:
Now take a tiny eyeshadow brush and apply a light golden shimmery highlight in the inner eye and drag it a little to your lower lash line and blend with the deep end eyeshadow.
Step 11:
Line your upper lash line. My look was heavy so I opted for the cat eye liner.  Apply lashes. Now apply mascara blending both your real and fake lashes together.

Step 12:
Contour and apply blush.
Step 13:
Line your lips and apply lipstick.
Step 14:
Spray your face with an oil control setting spray. Stay tuned I will be posting all about setting sprays soon.
So here is the finished look:

I hope you like this look. Do let me know if you need more tutorials.

  2. Which falsies would you recommend for someone that already has long eyelashes? I tried a false pair of eyelashes a few weeks back but didn't see the popup effect that I should have seen?

  3. Hello sweety,
Ardell wispies or check out the Ardelle lashes. You can get them in sally's beauty supply, walmart and sometimes in winners too. Also if you are willing to part with some stash, go to makeup for ever in sephora. They have some really nice dramatic ones. I would again in the end suggest Ardelles. For glue, I like the DUO lash glue or even Revlon makes a nice one which is easy to use. I also like the KISS lashes too and I think I got mine from Walmart. Bon chance lovey.
    Hope this helps hun.
    Love n hugz
